BANTWAL : An incident in which Jinaraja Ariga, the former trustee of the Sri Kshetra Karinja along with his son Dhananjaya attacked an autorickshaw driver with soda bottle in a fit of anger against the latter who was reportedly responsible for his losing the managing trusteeship of the temple. The incident took place near Karinja cross at around 1 pm on Wednesday. The duo even attacked another person who tried to prevent them from attacking the driver. The injured autorickshaw driver has been identified as Gopal while the other person is Manjunath.

A complaint lodged with Bantwal rural police said Ariga and his son who intercepted Gopal questioned him as to why he interfered in temple matters and then attacked him after abusing him in the name of caste. They have been accused of even attacking Manjunath who tied to prevent them.

Both of them have been admitted to Bantwal government hospital. The complaint said that Ariga and his son attacked Gopal whom they held responsible for his (Ariga’s) losing the trusteeship of the temple which he enjoyed for seven years after Gopal had approached the religious and endowment department.
