UPPINANGADY: The Karnataka Janatha Party has launched an indefinite hunger strike since Saturday demanding the repair of the Shiradi Ghat road on the National Highway 48. The agitation is being led by Prasanna Kumar, State President of the Party.

Even K Ram Bhat, President of the Swabhimani Vedike has backed the agitation.

While blaming the mine lords for the sorry state of the prominent highways of the state, Bhat also attributed the problem to the failure of the state government to set up weigh bridge to examine the heavily loaded lorries. Alleging that there have been widespread irregularities in the implementation of the road project, he further said that the condition of the Shiradi Ghat stretch of road as well as several other roads may better only when people take to the streets against the authorities.
