MANGALORE : Allegations are presently being heard that the district administration has failed to make use of the Rs 5.09 crores which the government had released during the year 2008-2009 for the welfare of the Koraga community.
If the Union Government had sanctioned Rs 3.80 crores for the developmental schemes, Rs 1.29 crores had been allotted by the state government. However the amount is learnt to have not been utilized for any welfare programme so far.
Complaints are also being heard that the district administration which evinced keen interest in utilizing funds for the development of other communities, had however not issued any instructions to the authorities concerned to utilize the funds sanctioned for the development of the Koraga community.
Clarifying on the issue, Dayavathi who is in-charge of Integrated Tribal Developmental Projects said the department has decided to distribute Rs 70,000 each to the Koraga families on preferential basis for rehabilitation works. She also said the state government has already sanctioned Rs 1.29 crores for the action plan for development of tribals in the state. A sum of Rs 3.8 crore would also be sanctioned from the government, she said adding an action plan would also be prepared to utilize this amount. The projects would be implemented no sooner a green signal is secured from the Zilla Panchayat and the DC, the officer informed.
