MANGALORE: “Farmers are sure to incur losses by rearing barren cattle. Will Yeddyurappa bear the losses suffered by them?” This was how senior Congress leader and former minister B Janardhan Poojari expressed his opposition to the implementation of the Anti-Cow Slaughter bill.

Addressing press persons in the city on Monday, he launched a verbal attack against the Chief Minister for deciding to go ahead with the implementation of the Bill.

Farmers will earn at least Rs 7000 to Rs 8000 by sale of the flesh of the barren and old cattle, he said. Stating that the Act was anti-farmer, he said the CM by trying to implement the Bill was only cheating the people of the state.

Recalling that the Supreme Court had earlier not permitted the Madhya Pradesh Government to implement such a law though the government had submitted an appeal four times, he added the Supreme Court by rejecting the appeal every time had even censured the government. Yeddyurappa had no knowledge of the legal aspect of banning cow slaughter, Poojari ridiculed.

Congress leaders Suresh Ballal, Arun Coelho, MG Hegde, Kallige Taranath Shetty and others were present at the press meet.
