MANGALORE: In a new development in the advocate Preetham Kumar missing case, the District Congress Committee, on Monday staged a protest demanding the resignation of District Minister Krishna Palemar to facilitate impartial investigation into the advocate Preetham Kumar missing case, in view of Palemar’s name being linked to the case.

Addressing the protest organized in front of the DC office, former MP Vinaykumar Sorake said “ As the complaint with regard to the Preetham Kumar missing case has named Palemar and Chief Secretary of the state government as the Respondents, the doubts regarding the minister’s link with the case have been strengthened. In order to facilitate impartial probe into the case, Palemar should quit his ministership and face police investigation.” He also said the Congress would be appealing to the governor to ensure necessary steps in this regard.

Accusing the police department of failure to trace Preetham even two months after his missing, he attributed this to the pressure mounted on the police department by the district minister through the home minister. He said the party would organize state wide protest demanding the CM to drop Palemar from the cabinet, in case he failed to tender his resignation.

Another Congress leader and former Suratkal MLA Vijaykumar Shetty who also spoke alleged that the police department by succumbing to pressure from BJP leaders was trying to hush up the case.

“Palemar has been identified as a close relative of the girl with whom the missing advocate was in love. After Preetham missing or kidnapping, Raviraj, Koragappa and Ramachandra hade been to Palemar’s residence to pressurize him to prevail upon the police department to hush up the case. The minister has heeded to them,” Shetty alleged.

State Congress Spokesperson MG Hegde, Kodijal Ibrahim, Ivan D’Souza and other Congress leaders also spoke on the occasion.

Later a delegation of Congress leaders met the Deputy Commissioner and submitted a memorandum to him
