MANGALORE : In a first ever cyber crime case busted by the police here, a person from Kolkata named Debaraj Sengupta has been arrested on charges of defaming a young woman by posting on the internet manipulated nude photographs of hers, after hacking her e-mail ID.
The arrested is said to be hailing from Heerapura , about 300 kms away from Kolkata Newtown.
It is learnt he had hacked the e-mail ID of Sindhu(name changed) who had come to Mangalore seeking a job, and after attaching her photograph to the nude photograph of another woman, had posted it in the internet . A complaint had been lodged in this regard in Kavoor station.
Investigations revealed that Sengupta who was in love with Sindhu had resorted to such an act of revenge when Sindhu had decided to marry someone else.
The police here acting on a tip off that he was in Kolkata left for West Bengal and arrested him.
A computer used by him to manipulate the photographs has been seized.
In case the allegations against him of hacking an email ID and then manipulating the photograph, are proved then he will have to undergo seven years of imprisonment and pay a penalty of Rs 2 lakh.
The accused has been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody upto April 12.
