BANTWAL : Bantwal Legislator and DCC President B Ramanatha Rai has made a mockery of the AMR Project at Shambhoor by referring to it as the East India Company.

Presiding over a meeting of the people affected by the Tumbay new vented dam, he said it was owing to this reason that the people naturally had apprehensions regarding even the new Tumbay dam project.

Alleging that the AMR Company at Shambhoor had failed to behave courteously with the locals and take them into confidence, he said the government must maintain transparency in the Tumbay second vented dam project dam project. The government, he said should also see to it that the areas that are likely to be inundated due to the project are reduced.

Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj who participated in the meeting, said a private agency has been entrusted with the task of undertaking a survey of the areas that are likely to be inundated due to the project. He also assured that the project would be taken up without causing much inconvenience to farmers and by taking them into confidence.

There are also plans to construct check dams, the DC Said.

B Sadananda Poonja, President of the Tumbay Dam Affected People’s Action Committee said though the project was welcome from the view of improving the water supply situation to Mangalore, the efforts to keep the public in the dark regarding several aspects of the project, was highly unwelcome.
