MANGALORE : Police have traced a minor girl from Mysore who was reportedly kidnapped by a youth from Ullal and forcibly converted into Islam. Police meanwhile have observed that this was a case of ‘Love Jihad.’

The 16 year old girl was earlier reportedly kidnapped by Azeez Hafeez, son of M Idinabba of Ullal, who worked for a medical store in Mysore and stayed at a relative’s house. There he had befriended the minor girl and after making her believe that he loved her had kidnapped her.

Police say Azeez not only converted the girl to Islam forcibly, but had also entered into a ‘nikah’ with her at Chikmagalur and had changed her name as Mehek Taj. He had even got a false affidavit that she had attained 18 yeas of age. Police said he had already sold the jewels which the girl had brought along with her.

It is learnt, Hafeez during interrogations had revealed that he was about to abandon the girl within a few days. Police say Hafeez was also an accused in several theft cases.

KR Nagar police in Mysore say along with Hafeez, his father Rafiq, mother Zarine Taj, Siddique and Hassan Kaka have been arrested on charges of abetting with Azeem in converting the girl to Islam.
