MANGALORE: Even as the Manipal-Kasargod Volvo buses of the KSRTC are set to be flagged off on April 10, Saturday, there has arisen a confusion as to where the bus service should be inaugurated. Enthused by the great response to the Mangalore-Manipal KSRTC Volvo buses, the KSRTC has decided to commence the Manipal-Kasargod services from April 10.

When Jaishanker, a senior officer of the Mangalore Division of the KSRTC was contacted, he said the Volvo services would be inaugurated at Manipal at 9 am on April 10 and the bus will reach Kasargod via Mangalore. He said the fares of the Kasargod-Manipal bus would be fixed at the earliest.

Still it is not clear as to who would be flagging of the bus services. However as per the programme schedule of District Minister Krishna Palemar, there is the inaugural of Volvo bus services between Manipal-Kasargod at Mangalore on April 10. The efforts made by this correspondent to verify as to which Volvo services would Palemar be inaugurating, was however not fruitful. In fact, a few dailies had even reported on Thursday that Palemar would be inaugurating the Volvo bus services in Mangalore.

When a KSRTC official was contacted he said “We have no information in this regard. But Palemar, Home Minister Acharya and MP Nalin Kumar Kateel are expected to take part in the Volvo bus flagging off ceremony in Manipal on Saturday.”
Differences?
Still, sources indicate that a difference of opinion that has cropped up between BJP leaders of Mangalore and Udupi over the issue, may force Palemar to refrain from the Manipal function on Saturday

Volvo to Puttur too

Meanwhile, the KSRTC is learnt to be contemplating introduction of Volvo services on the Mangalore-Puttur route shortly as the Puttur division of the KSRTC was presently running profitably.
