Posted on Apr 9th, 2010 and filed under General.

BANTWAL : In what could be termed as the first major win of the people affected by the Tumbay second vented dam project, a meeting of the affected people and SDPI representatives held in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner on Thursday, decided to go ahead with the dam construction works after taking locals into confidence.

The participants in the meeting urged the DC that the project should go ahead after complete details of the project are furnished to the people and the affected provided compensation. A request has also been made that the city mayor and MCC Commissioner should give a written assurance to the affected people in this regard within one week.

The meeting was attended among others by M Subrahmanya Bhat, General Secretary of the Action Committee of Tumbay Dam Affected People, Praveen Kumar Jain and other SDPI office bearers. Special Land Acquisition Officer Sadashiva Prabhu was also present at the meeting.

It may be recalled here that the Social Democratic Party of India had earlier staged a protest demanding scientific survey of the areas likely to be inundated due to the project.
