MYSORE : Former union minister Oscar Fernandes has said that the Congress high command which had seriously considered the party’s debacle in the BBMP polls, was even thinking in terms of a change in leadership.

Oscar who was in the city to take part in a function, said the party seniors had accepted the BBMP debacle with an open mind. “We have to concede the failure. There is a need to find the reasons for the debacle and prepare the party for the next elections,” he exhorted the party men.

Speaking on the party organization, he while admitting that there had been a demand for a change in leadership added the high command would take a suitable decision at the right time.

“ The party workers themselves would decide as to who should lead them during the ensuing panchayat elections. As the high command would consider the views of the party workers, I have nothing to say,” Oscar observed and made it clear that the Congress high command had in no way considered the BBMP debacle lightly.

He also emphasized the need to strengthen the party from the grassroots level.
