KARKALA : The Naxal activities which had subsided a bit in the vicinity of Hebri since some time, has once again gained momentum with Naxal hand outs and banners seen at several places in the region. Moreover, even the tomb of a Naxal named Vasanth who fell victim to police bullets at Mairoli in Mutlupadi has been found in the forests which has been named ‘Comrade Vasanth Grounds’ by the Naxals.
The Naxal activity which had virtually subsided after the killing of Vasanth has once again received a spurt no sooner the gram panchayat elections were announced. Naxals have been spotted by locals in the Mutlupadi area during night time, disturbing hand outs.
It has also been found that the place where Vasanth was killed had been cleaned up and wooden logs and stones have been piled up to create a tomb covered with a red cloth bearing the symbol of the Maoist Naxal group. Even a red banner with revolutionary writing has been fixed pm the tomb. The banner read so “Comrade Vasanth is the proud son of Tulunad, a revolutionary of the land and a youth leader who is immortal.â€
The spurt in Naxal activity in the region even as the state government is claiming that Naxal activities in the state have subsided, has been a matter of concern for the locals, that too when the ANF was continuing its combing operations in the region.
It is still not known how these Naxals spotted by locals are not spotted by the ANF personnel in the region
Here it is worth mentioning that Naxals even created panic among locals when they recently had been to the residence of BJP leader Tingale Vikramarjuna Hegde and issued threats to the BJP leader in his absence.
The Naxal hand outs distributed among the locals also calls upon locals to strengthen Naxal activities in the region.
The locals are now left with no go but question the ANF personnel who gather no hint of these Naxals who could even build a tomb in memory of their slain comrade.
