UDUPI : The Udupi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Court has slapped penalty on the Kundapur’s Durgamba Motors for failing to deliver the parcel of a home theatre system to the destination address in Kundapur.
Jayachandra Kamath of Koteshwar had sent the home theatre system to his father JN Kamath through a parcel via Durgamba Motors. However, JN Kamath who had been to the office of the firm was told that the parcel had not reached the place. Kamath who had been to the office for three days was give a similar answer.
When Jayachandra informed the matter to Durgamba Motors through a letter, the company told him that it had already delivered the parcel finally forcing Kamath to move the consumer court.
The court after hearing both the sides directed the firm to pay the cost of the home theatre system i.e.Rs 10,500 to the client at the rate of 10 per cent interest with effect from June 25, 2009. The court has also directed the firm to pay a penalty of Rs 10,000 as compensation and an additional Rs 2000 for the mental agony caused to the client.
