MANGALORE : If the Mangalore city corporation, on the one hand was taking measures towards beautifying the city, on the other hand, it is also defacing the city through its negligence. One instance is the huge wastes that are dumped on either side of the National Highway close by the Kadri Park. The place is in such a mess that one may even mistake it to the Pachanady waste dumping yard, such is the quantity of wastes that have been dumped here. But blatant is the apathy of the Mangalore city corporation which has chosen to turn a blind eye to the same.
One can see lorries coming to the place and dumping all sorts of waste upto a distance of half a km from the petrol bunk near KPT, on either side of the NH. Though earlier when the four-laning of this stretch of the road was in progress, there was the impression that soil had been dumped on either side of the road, now to add to the problem even wastes are dumped here. Any further inaction would mean that these wastes are sure to pose a grave threat during monsoons when the drains gets clogged and the area experiences artificial floods. The people coming to the Kadri park too may have to visit the park with hands on their nose. The wastes if not cleared up are likely to pose grave health hazards to the people in the area.
It is learnt the several complaints made with the MCC and the district administration with regard to the unhygienic surroundings prevailing in the area, have only fallen on deaf ears. But, it seems the Corporation lacks the determination to clean up the area and prevent people from dumping wastes here.
