BANGALORE : The State Human Rights Commission has directed the IGP to submit a report after undertaking a probe into the case of the reported torture meted out to two youth who were arrested in connection with a case in Ullal Police Station limits.

It may be recalled here that the Karavali Ale and The Canara Times had carried a report on May 3 on the matter and on the basis of the report the Commission has filed a case voluntarily.

On April 30, Shyamsunder, the SI of the Crime division of the Ullal police station had arrested two youth namely Davood (28) and Sharief (34) of Ullal Dharmanagar in connection with a case and had reportedly placed them under detention in the station for three days during which they were tortured. The accused were produced before the court on May 3 when the court directed the police to admit the two to hospital. However, Bava, the father of one of the accused had complained to the senior police officials that the police instead of adhering to the court orders and admitting the youth to the hospital,

had pushed them behind bars again.

The State Human Rights Commission which observed so “It has been understood at the outset that the Ullal police by violating the rules, had detained the accused in the station for as many days as they wanted and had even not paid heed to the court orders. Therefore, the case should be probed and a report submitted to the Commission within one month.”
