Posted on May 12th, 2010 and filed under Local News.

MANGALORE : The Union Ministry for Highway and Transport has not yet given its green signal for the proposed four-laning of the Hassan BC Road stretch on the National Highway 48 at a cost of Rs 2,038 crores, giving all indications that this project would be much more delayed.

The Ministry has not yet approved the five phase report submitted with regard to the project by the consultants. There are a total of eight phases for this project including survey report, project feasibility report, clearance report, draft report, primary blue-print report, final feasibility report, final report and project schedule.

It is only after these reports are cleared that the land acquisition process would commence. The four-laning project when complete would reduce the distance between Hassan and BC Road by six kms.

The proposed project also includes construction of two bye-passes at Sakleshpur and Ballupete.

The survey for this project which had commenced in November 2007 had concluded in September 2008. Now with several hurdles facing the project, its implementation is all likely to be delayed, reliable sources indicated
