MANGALORE : It has been reliably learnt that there were possibilities of initiating action against the Bellary jail superintendent SN Hulloor who had permitted the under trial Prasad Attavar to hold talks with a channel reporter, after accepting bribe and letting all regulations to wind.
Minister for Prisons Umesh Katti has assured to initiate action against the jail superintendent following the Headlines Today-Tehelka sting operation which had revealed the security lapses and the irregularities in the Bellary prison.
It has been reported that the jail superintendent after accepting a bribe of Rs 3000 had permitted Attavar to use cell phone inside the prison and had also made separate room arrangements for Attavar to hold talks with the channel reporters.
Though as per rules, the jail superintendent can permit an under trial to meet an outsider, a jail officer has to be compulsorily present on the occasion. But the channel reporter had held talks with Prasad Attavar in the absence of any other officer in the closed room. Later after the reporters came out, a cash of Rs 3000 was handed over to Prasad right in the presence of the jail officer ( as per rules no one can hand over cash to the under trial within the jail premises and even the under trial cannot have cash with him). Even the jail officer did not object to this act.
Though using of cell phone by under trials is banned, it has been reported that the channel reporter had contacted Attavar several times over phone and had even messaged him.
