MANGALORE: The MCC mayor who has been singing praises about MRPL which has come forward to donate 30 crore rupees towards the construction of a six lane road from Surathkal Junction to MRPL gate, has come under severe criticism by the villagers of Bala.
“The MRPL is going to release 30 crore rupees towards the construction of a six lane road from Surathkal Junction to MRPL gate. Road divider, vehicle stands, toilets and a bus stand will be constructed along this 4.75 km stretch. This speaks highly of the social commitment of MRPL” the mayor said while addressing a press meet on Thursday.
However, one of the members of the Bala GP had this to say -“A drainage had been constructed with the help of the grants from Bala GP and TP grants on either sides of the road from MRPL gate to Kana. The Bullet tankers of MRPL park themselves right on these drainages, most of the electric poles have been badly damaged by these giant sized trucks, and the entire drainage from Bala bus stand to cargo gate is overflowing with solid waste which has become one of the biggest challenges before the GP. It is not out of the concern for the public that the MRPL has come out with this largesse, but it has done this only to serve its own purposes.”
Deepak Permude, farmer leader, while condemning the utterances of the Mayor said “besides destroying the drainage system of the area, the beauty of the entire stretch from Surathkal to MRPL gate has been completely spoiled by the giant sized bullet trucks of MRPL. The amount to be given by MRPL must be collected as a penalty for all the damages done. Not even a ten lane road can withstand the amount of traffic in the form of bullet trucks. The Mayor must realize this fact.
