Vested interests behind Padubidri bye pass proposal, alleges JD(S) leader

UDUPI : Udupi District JD(S) President Deviprasad Shetty has alleged that some vested interests had a role to play behind the bye pass proposal at Padubidri as part of the proposed four-lane on the Kundapur-Suratkal National Highway. He has even threatened to file a public interest litigation against this proposal.

Shetty has further alleged that the bye-pass proposal has been put forth with due collusion of some local vested interests with officials of the NH department.

He said there was no objection to the widening of the highway, but questioned why the bye-pass which would not be constructed anywhere along the highway, would be constructed at Padubidri.

He said though the highway could be extended upto 40 meters, the authorities by succumbing to political pressure have seen to it that the project encompassed several agricultural lands, lands of retired government staff and places of worship.

He alleged that the proposed bye pass at Padubidri passing from Padubidri Beedu upto Ermal Kalsanka, has hidden interests of the Suzlon unit and the UPCL project which are being set up in the vicinity and also the proposed industrial area here.

Shetty further questioned why this bye pass proposal could not be cancelled when a bye-pass that was earlier proposed at Mulki Kokkarekallu which was supposed to encroach the Car street of Bappanadu Temple, was cancelled with the intervention of DK MP Nalin Kumar Kateel. “Why cannot the Udupi MP DV Sadananda Gowda intervene and cancel the proposed bye-pass at Padubidri?” Shetty further questioned.
