Student attacked in Haleyangady College

MANGALORE : A complaint has been lodged with the District Superintendent of Police, Mulki police inspector and the Deputy Director of the Pre-University Education Department against a few students of the Haleyangady Government Pre-University College, for attacking a student belonging to the minority community in the college over a trivial reason.
The victim Shabbeer a first BCom student of the college, in his complaint to the Mulki police and the SP has said that he was attacked for the sole reason that his elbow brushed against the hand of a Hindu student while alighting from the steps of the college. It is reported that the situation in the institution remained tense for some time following the incident.
Shabbeer has suffered injuries in his hands and stomach.

Problems galore : Meanwhile, students of the college, revealed to this correspondent, the several problems confronting the college which even lacked basic amenities. They said the absence of any security to the college premises has given a free hand to some criminal elements to have their way in the college. Pointing out at the sorry state of the ladies toilet in the institution, the students complained that the toilets were devoid of water facility making it impossible for the students to use the same. The students say the lady lecturers of the college have not bothered much about this problem as they had separate lavatories.
