Why are Dalit assns backing SI notorious for atrocities ?

MANGALORE : The protest march staged by a few people said to be belonging to Dalit organizations, at Bajpe, opposing the transfer of Bajpe SI Pramod Kumar, is being viewed as a political game plan of this inspector despite himself being a junior most officer.

No answer is available as of now as to why the Dalit organizations all of a sudden developed a liking for this SI who has not done even one work that would term him as a Dalit lover.

The fact is that Pramod is a man who was groomed by the RSS. After all why are the Dalit organizations pressurizing the authorities to reinstate Pramod in Bajpe ? What’s the hidden truth behind this? Why is it that the Dalit organizations have failed to understand that this inspector is facing investigation in at least four cases by the State Human Rights Commission, on charges of acting against the interests of the minority community?

Have the Dalit organizations forgotten that this SI had illegally detained a poor laborer for a whole week and then dropped him on the wayside no sooner the court issued a search warrant ?. He is also facing the allegation of attacking a TV channel reporter solely for the reason that he was a Muslim. Have the Dalit organizations forgotten that nothing could harm this SI even when the progressive journalists of Mangalore staged a protest for two days before the IGP office opposing the attack?
The Dalit organizations should also take cognizance of three more cases of atrocities by this officer who is unduly proud of his RSS background. Three years ago, Muslim leaders had complained to the Governor after this officer barged into the house of Muslims at Kasaba Bengre on the day of Id and then attacked people irrespective of whether they were women, children or old people. Later on this SI even made a person who had come to the station to lodge a complaint squat in underwear in the station for hours together. In yet another case, two youth said to be innocents, who were arrested in connection with a case in Ullal, were not hospitalized despite a court order. A complaint against this is also before the State Human Rights Commission.

The Dalit organizations have been always active in Mangalore. There have even been several instances when these organizations have fought against police atrocities and injustice. In the Mangalore University Lecturer Umeshchandra case, the Dalit organisations played a decisive role. This being the case, what good work has been done by this officer ? That this SI of Bajpe station had worked day and night during the Bajpe air crash, cannot be a plus point in his case. The reason being that anyone who might have been in that post, ought to have acted in a similar fashion when a worst ever air tragedy took place. The officer has only done his duty at that time.

But rumours are doing the rounds that some policemen of Bajpe station have done something that ought not to have been done in times of such humanitarian crisis. There are even complaints that the cash and valuables of the victims of the air crash, which the Bajpe station authorities seized, have gone unaccounted for. In fact, it is also being said that there is every chance that the police personnel might have taken advantage of the fact that none of the families or relatives of the victims of the air crash can provide exact details of the cash and jewels which the victims might have possessed at that time.

May be the truth may come to light only when the Bajpe station personnel are subject to narco analysis test.

The Congressmen who had invited the wrath of the civil society by trying to defend the Bajpe SI who never hesitated to commit atrocities on innocents, have now backtracked. They are now aware of the facts. But what about our friends in the Dalit organizations ?

Organizational power should not be misused

When any organization is used for some unjustifiable act, then the credibility of such organization would be at stake. So far not even a single Dalit organization has raised its voice against the moves to shunt SP Subrahmanyeshwara Rao who himself is a Dalit officer. It is being said that even the other Dalit officer DC Ponnuraj is likely to exit from the district.

Probably it is for the first time in the history of the district that it has a DC and SP belonging to Dalit community. Even the discerning people of the district have wholeheartedly welcomed these two officers to the district which faced trouble from communal forces and fundamentalists. ( But it is a different matter that even these officers could not root out these forces completely. Even today the law and order scenario here is a matter of concern. The advocate Preetham Kumar missing and suspected murder case alone is enough to pinpoint that these two officials have not been able to function in a free and fearless manner).
