Setting up of an international airport in Mangalore was a milestone achievement. The new terminal inaugural had added another feather to its cap and had also made the airport officials beam with pride.
But all that did not last long as within a week after the new airport terminal inaugural the Air India Express flight from Dubai crash-landed at Bajpe killing 158 persons on board, some of them kids, many others the sole bread winners of their families. There were even happy families that perished in the crash.
It was said that the aircraft had no defects, even the runway was good and the climate conducive for landing. Still 158 lives were charred to death in the crash. Today none is ready to own up responsibility for this. There were even statements that said the pilot error had led to the crash. They were only attempts to pass the blame to save oneself, by pointing fingers towards someone else who was no more. We are people who are never ready to admit our mistakes and think it is our birthright to pass the buck on others.
We are people who do not have the will power to learn lessons from the bitter experiences.
