‘Naxals have fled!’

BANGALORE: Beware of speaking about Naxals or Naxal activities in the state in the future. In such a case, the police may label you as a Naxal and begin a hunt for you. The reason is obvious. According to Home Minister VS Acharya, Karnataka is a Naxal-free state.

Acharya while pointing out that the state had not been invited by the Centre for the recent meeting of ministers of Naxal affected states, says the reason for this is that Naxal activities were absent in the state. However, he, at the same time by expressing his resentment over the non-invitation extended to Karnataka, seems to be contradicting his earlier statement.

According to Acharya, Naxals have just fled following the repeated raids on Naxal hide-outs during the past one year period. He also said the act of cracking down Naxals would gain pace in the days to come

“During the past eight year period, Karnataka was one of the eight Naxal affected states. But now, the Centre has considered Karnataka as a Naxal free state. This is no less achievement,” Acharya patted his own back.
