BANGALORE: State Minister for Ports and Environment Krishna Palemar has justified
the suspension of Karwar DCF R Gokul by saying “DCF Gokul was an officer who failed
to pay heed to the elected representatives. I had written to the government to suspend
him.”
Palemar had convened a meeting at Belekeri on June 8 in the backdrop of the theft
of seized ore worth lakhs of rupees, from the Belekeri port. The minister who was
irked by the absence of Gokul at the meeting convened by him, duly recommended his
suspension.
Palemar said he had discussed the matter with the chief Minister on June 22, and
added “My main objective was to hand over the case to the CoD.”
When asked how the ore was stolen, Palemar said his department was facing shortage of
staff and that the ore could not be duly guarded. He further said “Justice Hegde has only
misunderstood the government.”
