MANGALORE : Two lady junior research fellows of the Department of Bio-Science of
Mangalore University have quit the research project citing misbehavior by the research
project head. In a complaint with the Vice Chancellor of the University, the two research
fellows said “ The misbehavior of the research project head S Tippeswami is the reason
for our resignation.”
The two had joined duty as junior research fellows in July 2009 and have worked for 11
months under Tippeswami.
Meanwhile, reliable sources in the university informed that Tippeswami was also
involved in several bunglings and the same would be placed before the Syndicate
meeting seeking suitable action.
Reacting to the complaint, Vice Chancellor TC Shivashankeramurthi said “ This is
for the first time that I have received a complaint of sexual harassment, after I took
charge. It is left to the Syndicate to take any action against the guilty. I will order for an
investigation into the incident so that suitable action could be taken.”
It as been learnt that the issue would come up before the Syndicate meet to be held on
July 8. Some Syndicate members have also reacted saying such an incident was very
much offending to the University.
