MANGALORE: The Mangalore City Corporation in its report submitted to the
Karnataka State Human Rights Commission has explained that the MCC has taken
all possible precautionary measures to face monsoon related eventualities. The City
Corporation had submitted a report to the Commission in the wake of the latter seeking
the report after voluntarily registering a case on the basis of a write-up that appeared in
Karavali Ale and The Canara Times on the Mangalore city corporation’s unpreparedness
to face monsoons.
The Corporation Commissioner in his report has informed that a task force has been
constituted to assist the public in the event of natural calamities and disasters and
that the Task Force was available at the service of the public round the clock. The
contact numbers of this task force and also the helpline numbers have been provided
in newspapers, the report said adding a special gang of junior engineers has also been
constituted to ensure steps towards free flow of rain water and to prevent artificial floods.
The corporation has also explained to the Commission that steps have been taken to clear
the heaps of mud dumped on the sides of roads where concretization is on and also to
clear the side drains. Steps have also been taken to close the potholes on roads, the report
said adding a meeting of all the departments concerned has also been convened and
cooperation sought to tackle monsoon related eventualities. The MCC has received good
response from all the departments, the Commissioner has informed.
