MANGALORE : Senior Congress leader B Janardhan Poojari has urged the Union
Government to sue the parties which gave the call for the July 5 bundh.
Addressing press persons at the Press Club in Mangalore on July 5, he said such a step
has to be taken in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling of 2002 banning bundhs which
caused losses to the nation.
He also urged the government to recover the losses of the bundh from those who gave the
call for the bundh.
He further demanded that the Union Government should move the Supreme Court
questioning the bundh call given by the BJP. Even Public Interest Litigation can be
filed in this regard, he said. If that is not done, then the Supreme Court should voluntarily
register a case, he added.
Stating that the BJP during its tenure at the Centre from 1998 to 2004 had increased fuel
price 25 times, he said even the Congress government had failed to explain the facts
which prompted it to hike the fuel price.
Congress leaders Kallige Taranath Shetty, Harikrishna Bantwal, Suresh Ballal were
present at the press meet.
