Death traps on NH

Posted on Jul 8th, 2010 and filed under Special Report.

UDUPI : The stretch of the National Highway 17 from Kota to Padubidri is in a
dangerous state with its large potholes, posing a constant threat to motorists. Interestingly
this stretch of the NH had been bituminized just two months ago after the Save NH 17
Action Committee had resorted to protest.
The condition of the road is still worse at some places near Santhekatte, Kalyanpur
Nittoor and motorists are seen moving in a zig zag manner just to avoid these potholes.
The condition of the road has also caused a number of accidents.
Citizens meanwhile are furious over the authorities for the sub-standard road works.
The contractors too are blamed for resorting to poor quality of works by misusing public
funds.
