Cops hunting for kingpin of inter-state vehicle lifter’s gang

VITTAL : Police are hunting for the kingpin of an inter-state vehicle lifter’s gang which
is active in the district.
It is learnt, a person who was arrested at Uppinangady a couple of days ago on charges
of vehicle lifting, has during interrogation provided particulars regarding the racket.
The person arrested was Riyaz of Bangalore. He, it is learnt told the police that Abdulla
alias Adlunhi alias Abdul Rahiman of Kodangai near Vittal was the kingpin of the
racket and that he was accompanied by Khalander Shafi, an accused in fake currency
circulation. Even Ravi of Vittal Palike and Ashraf, an idol thief were a part of the
racket,
It is learnt, this gang has so far stolen over ten vehicles. Its modus operandi was to steal
vehicles parked on road side and then dispose it at the scrap yard.
Recently, the gang which had stolen a stationed lorry near Kuddupadavu near Vittal, had
planned to sell the same at Bangalore. Riyaz was arrested while he along with others
had arrived in Uppinangady with a stolen lorry from Nelamangala in Bangalore.
Reports say Abdulla was also facing charges of wood theft and had been arrested in
Puttur once and later handed over to Kasargod forest officials. He had recently come out
on bail.
