MANGALORE : Residents of Malavoor-Kenjar area staged a rasta roko agitation in
the area on July 9, Friday in protest against the sorry state of the road due to the frequent
plying of heavy vehicles on the road consequent upon the May 22 air crash. The agitators
who were unrelenting to allow movement of vehicles on the route, withdrew their
agitation only after the authorities including the executive engineer of the PWD arrived
at the spot and assured to repair the road at the earliest.
The road had developed several potholes due to the plying of several vehicles including
cranes to clear the aircraft debris. Moreover, even the vehicular movement on this stretch
of road owing to the visit by inquisitive people as well as politicians to the site has taken
its toll on the road forcing the locals to protest.
They pointed out that the residents of Adyapady and Kenjar are totally dependent on
this road and even the complaint to the authorities towards the problem arising due to
landslide from a hill near Deccan park, had fallen on deaf ears all these days.
