CPM demands national mining policy

Posted on Jul 16th, 2010 and filed under Politics.

MANGALORE : The State Secretariat of the CPI(M) has urged the Centre to frame a
National Mining Policy to put a check on illegal mining in the nation.
While demanding the state government to hand over the investigation into the illegal
mining issue in the state to the CBI, it opined that a CBI probe itself would bring to light
the facts. The party has also taken the government to task for sticking to its decision to
hand over the probe to the Lokayukta while the government has until now not acted upon
the Lokayukta report on illegal mining, even a year after the submission of the report.
The Government, the party said was only interested in shielding the mine barons,
and demanded that mine business be henceforth be entrusted only to public sector
undertakings.
