Chokkabettu masjid management dismissed ; AO appointed

MANGALORE : The Karnataka State Wakf Bard has dismissed the management board
of the Tannirbavi Mohiyuddeen Jumma Masjid of Chokkabettu and has appointed retired
DySP TCM Sharief as its administrative officer for one year period.
This step was taken after the Wakf Board failed in settling the dispute that cropped up
in the Jamaat over the administration of the masjid. Though the annual general meeting
of the committee was supposed to be held in the first week of April, the meeting
was postponed for the reason that the observers appointed to the meeting namely BM
Basheer Ahmed, Vice President of the District Wakf Board and MH Iqbal had arrived
late for the meeting. The efforts of the District Wakf Board to settle the dispute three
times also failed and though the general meeting was convened on May 21 as per the
instructions of the Board, it witnessed fracas resulting in the hospitalization of a few. A
complaint had also been lodged with the Suratkal police.
Finally, the district Wakf committee had recommended to the state Board to dissolve the
committee and appoint an administrative officer.
