MANGALORE : The Sri Rama Sene has come into the picture once again, this time
in connection with the recent case of police atrocities on Gangadhar Shetty, Justine
Vas and Joel Vas, who had been to the Mangalore rural police station in connection
with an assault case. If a group of assailants instigated by the policemen accused of
committing atrocities and an advocate, threatened to kill Gangadhar Shetty, another
person Justine Vas (58), a resident of Adyarpadavu was attacked. It is learnt, he was
attacked by Adyarpadav residents Pushparaj, Venkatesh and Nitesh who are associated
with the Sri Rama Sene. Justine who has sustained head injuries has been hospitalized.
It is learnt, the attack took place when Shetty and Justine Vas were on way to Neermarga
at around 6.30 pm on July 23, Friday. When the assailants waylaid them near Adyar
Ashwathakatte, Shetty had managed to escape. Justine was however taken inside a Maruti
Omni and attacked with stones and blade. Meanwhile, Gangadhar Shetty too was caught
hold of by the assailants at some other place and was threatened against continuing the
case.
Justine Vas’s son Joel has said so “Though inspector Lingappa who had arrived at around
2.30 am to gather details of the incident, was told that SI Prakash and an advocate had a
role to play behind the attack, he has hesitated to include their names.â€
Justin meanwhile has accused the hands of a pro Sri Rama Sene advocate behind
the attack. “ An advocate was appointed to deal with the case of attacking me by
some neighbors on June 28. When I had brought to the notice of the advocate the
atrocities committed by the SI Prakash and had requested to lodge a complaint with
the Commissioner, he had refrained saying the police may fix us in some false case.
Suspecting him I had changed my advocate. The first advocate who was infuriated had
colluded with the police and had seen to it that I was attacked. I have no previous
enmity with the persons who attacked me.â€
