MANGALORE: It has been learnt that over 170 children who were supposed to get
admitted to classes from 1 to five in various schools of the district under the ‘Marali
Shalege Baa’ programme, have not yet come to schools even a month after the
programme was held.
This fact case to light at the KDP meeting held recently. Of these students, 89 are girls.
Earlier, the school drop outs were given time upto June end to come to school but none
had turned up until now.
C Chamegowda, Deputy Director of Pubic Instructions has informed that the number
of school drop outs between 6 and 14 years of age has increased to 700 this year. He
however clarified that the delay in the children getting readmitted to the classes was
owing to a test that is given before enrolling them to schools again.
