HR violation case : Accused SI Prakash had lured complainant of job, cash

Posted on Jul 25th, 2010 and filed under Crime/Mishaps.

MANGALORE: It has come to light of late that the Mangalore Rural Police Station SI
Prakash, who has been accused of human rights violation, had lured Gangadhar Shetty
who had lodged a complaint with the Commissioner against him, of cash and a job, in
order to withdraw the complaint.
Gangadhar Shetty, an autorickshaw driver who is a witness to an assault that took place
on his neighbour Justine Vas, had complained to the Commissioner of the atrocities
on July 8, and since then was receiving frequent calls from SI Prakash which however
were not received by him. But when he, fed up of the calls, received one of them, the
SI had reportedly told him that he has secured a security guard’s job at KMC for Shetty
with a pay of Rs 3500 to Rs 5000. (This conversation has been recorded). However
Shetty had then evaded visiting the SI on health grounds. Yet again the SI had sent
two three cops of the SP’s Special Squad including one David by a Logan vehicle to
him when he was sitting all alone in front of the Durgaparameshwari Temple near his
house at Adyarapadavu. The cops had then reportedly lured him of cash to withdraw the
complaint. However, when he said he had to consult his advocate, they left the scene,
Shetty has described. Shetty says he has lodged a complaint in this regard even to the
Commissioner on July 12.
Meanwhile, Justine Vas who has been attacked by some suspected Sri Rama Sene men
in connection with the case, narrated his horrendous experience to scribes who met him
at the hospital He couldn’t control his tears when he spoke on how he was forced by the
cops to pluck the pubic hair of Shetty.
Hearing on July 27
A departmental probe has already commenced with regard to this case of atrocity, under
the leadership of rural station inspector Lingappa. The officer has informed that though
the accused had been served a notice and asked to appear for the enquiry at the rural
station on July 23, they had replied seeking 20 days time and hence the enquiry date has
been fixed at July 27.
