MANGALORE : The case of the alleged human rights violation by the Mangalore Rural
SI Prakash regarding which a complaint had already been lodged with the Commissioner
by one Gangadhar Shetty, has now taken yet another interesting twist, with the
complainant Shetty now saying he had lodged a false complaint after he fell prey to the
lurings of cash and liquor.
Addressing press met in the presence of the men of this locality, Shetty said the
allegation leveled by Justine Vas and his son Joel Vas against locals was baseless. “They
have forced me to stand as a witness to all these allegations after luring me with cash
and liquor. As I was in dire need of funds, I heeded to them and gave a false witness in
the station without considering public interest. Justine has promised me Rs 5 lakh for the
same,†Shetty said. He further said “ Following pressure from Justine Vas, Joel Vas and
their advocate, I was a part of this act wherein false allegation was made,†and added “
Mangalore Rural SI Prakash and his staff had subject me to interrogation but have not
committed any atrocities on me nor have lured me of cash or job.†He also clarified that
he had lodged a false complaint with the Commissioner.
Dedicated SI : Staney Alvares, a resident of Adyarpadavu who also spoke
said “Mangalore Rural SI Prakash was a dedicated and sincere officer. An attempt has
been made to tarnish his image in this case,â€
“ Justine Vas (55) and his son Joel Vas (20) of Adyarpadavu have been creating trouble
for locals since the past two years. Joel, an engineering student was also misbehaving.
He has brutally assaulted one Francis D’Souza who opposed him. Several complaints
had even lodged against these two persons earlier. They have even threatened the local
church parish priest who tried to advice them. The SI Prakash and his staff had done
the right thing by arresting the father and son in this case. The police have not harassed
anyone,†he said.
Gangadhar Shetty arrived at the Patrika Bhavan with around 25 villagers as escorts and it
was evident from his expression that he was issuing the statement after being forced to do
so. Gangadhar Shetty even struggled to answer queries posed by scribes.
