MANGALORE : The Union Government has given its green signal to the proposal to
widen the NH 13 on the Mangalore-Shimoga stretch covering 213 kms.
It has been decided to widen the highway by three meters to five meters while 1.5 meter
space would be earmarked for parking on either side.
The Union Ministry for Highways and Transport has decided to take up this project
under Phase IV of its National Highway Development Programme. From Mangalore, the
Highway passes through Kaikamba, Moodbidri, Karkala, Kerekatte, Shringeri, Koppa,
Tirthahalli, Mandagadde and Gajanur to reach Shimoga.
Sources said the report submitted to the minister has two separate blue prints of the
proposed project costing Rs 2.7 crore and Rs 13.17 crore respectively.
