PADUBIDRI : The Department of Public Education has come under fire for organizing sports meets for students in the midst of monsoons. Recently, a Padubidri level inter-school volley ball tournament had been organised at the government school near Nandikur. All arrangements had been made by the school for the tournament, the cost of which is to be borne by the school itself. The school authorities too had taken pains to raise funds through donations and arrange for the sports meet. However, the organizers had anxious moments when it was raining cats and dogs on the day of the tournament. The match which was supposed to begin at 10 am began at 11 am . Even the education department convener Krishna Salian who had inaugurated the event left the place very soon, probably out of fear that the department may be taken to task for organizing a sports meet during monsoons. The participants played the game amid the rain.
However, the parents are expressing their anguish over the unscientific manner in which the education department officials sitting far away in Bangalore, prepare the time table for the sports meet, without taking into consideration the weather aspect.
