MANGALORE: Tippeswami, Professor in the Department of Bio-Sciences of
Mangalore University, has been suspended from service on charges of sexually harassing
two junior research fellow s.
Vice Chancellor TC Shivashankermurthi has informed that Tippeswami will be under
suspension till the investigation is complete.
A written complaint had been lodged with the Vice Chancellor and Chancellor and
Governor Hamsaraj Bhardwarj by two junior research fellows stating that Tippeswami
not only sexually harassed them but had also forced them to tender resignation as junior
research fellows.
The Syndicate meeting had earlier recommended the suspension of Tippeswamy.
Action against History dept chief: Action has followed even against Uday Barkur,
the head of the department of History in Mangalore University for assisting his wife to
answer the examination of a correspondence course in History in the year 2008-2009
when he was the Chairman of the Examination Board.
As a punishment, Uday Barkur has been stripped of his post in the history department
and also that of the Chairman of History Examination Board. He has also lost the post of
warden of the men’s hostel of the University.
