MANGALORE : RL Dias, President of the Udupi Railway Yatri Sangha has informed that the Sangha will be launching a post-card agitation to demand the dropping of the proposed extension of the Mangalore-Bangalore night train to Kannur.
He informed that the Sangha would be constituting a Western Coast Yatri Samithi to protect the interests of the railway passengers of the coastal districts. He further added that through the Samithi, the Sangha would launch a movement against the announcement of railway minister Mamatha Banerjee that has done injustice to the region. He said as apart of the drive, the Sangha would be embarking on a signature collection drive in front of the deputy Commissioner’s office and Central Railway Station in the city.
Meanwhile, Dias has also placed forth a demand to operate the day train between Mangalore and Bangalore on all days of the week. The leaders of the Yatri Sangha also said they were totally against the extension of the night train to Kannur on all the days of the week , while there was a possibility to extend the train to Karwar during four days of the week.
