MANGALORE : Jagannath Shetty Bondala, former president of the Dakshina Kannada District Youth Congress has expressed his dissatisfaction over the government fixing the support price for areca at Rs 75.
Addressing a protest meeting organized in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in the city on Thursday, he said it was highly unjustifiable on the part of the BJP government in the state to first promise to fix the support price at the earlier market price of Rs 79 and then announce a lower support price of Rs 75. “ It’s better for the government to give some poison to the growers instead of doing so,” he reacted sharply.
Stating that the government was doing injustice to growers in DK and Udupi districts by fixing a lower support price when compared to the support price given to farmers in CM’s home district, he also charged the government of pursuing a step motherly policy towards the DK and Udupi district. He said injustice has also been done to the districts in the implementation of the Rajeev Gandhi Electrification Scheme.
“The CM has been cheating the people of DK by giving false assurances,” he said and made another serious allegation that the CM was only heeding to the words of Shobha Karandlaje.
Moidin Bava, President of the Minorities Cell of the DK Congress who also spoke was highly critical of the CM’s China visit at a time when 86 districts of the state were drought hit.
Arun Coelho, District Youth Congress President, Leaders Harikrishna Bantwal, Suresh Ballal, TK Sudhir, Shashidhar Hegde and others took part in the agitation.
