UDUPI: Hectic lobbying is presently underway by several BJP men to grab the top post
of TMC Chief for the second year of the BJP rule in the Udupi TMC. However, reports
suggest that the top post was all likely to go to a staunch loyalist of Home Minister VS
Acharya as per the wishes of the minister.
Already, the government has announced reservation for the post and the post of President
is reserved for general category candidate while the Vice President’s post is reserved for
a woman candidate belonging to Backward Class A category.
As the top post is reserved for a general candidate, naturally the number of aspirants too
is more. Those in the rat race are Dr MR Pai, Ravi Amin, Mohan Upadhya, Kiran Kumar,
Vasanthi Shetty, Prabhaker Poojari, Mahesh Thakur and Yashpal Suvarna.
The tenure of the sitting President and Vice President Dinaker Shetty and Indira Shekhar
will end on August 14. If last year, Mohan Upadhya was a strong contender for the post,
his name was dropped in the last minute to pave way for Dinaker Shetty.
Among the present contenders, Ravi Amin, MR Pai and Vasanthi Shetty are senior
councilors and also followers of the home minister and the top post is likely to go to one
of these three councilors.
