CHALLAKERE : Opposition leader Siddaramaiah who has taken the home minister to
task for the failure of Tourism Minister Janardhan Reddy to appear before the court even
when the court has issued eight non bailable warrants against him, has on this occasion
referred to Home Minister’s statement in the assembly some time back defending the
arrest of Karavali Ale Chief BV Seetaram arrest case by saying that BV See had several
non-bailable warrants against him.
Addressing a huge public meet at Challakere where the Congress Padayatra had arrived
enroute Bellary, he said “ Chief Minister Yeddyurappa and Home Minister Acharya
had proved their intolerance towards a journalist who was fighting for the rights of the
people, by arresting BV See who had committed no offence.â€
“The BJP government did not hesitate to teach a lesson to BV See because he opposed
the communal agenda of the Sangh Parivar,†he said adding “ The government’s action
aimed at terrorizing anti-Sangh Parivar scribes.â€
â€Acharya’s personal interest is responsible for the arrest of BV See. It is shameful to
note that the Home Minister had stooped to low levels to order arrest of a journalist to
nurture his personal vengeance. “BV See arrest case reveals that the Freedom of the
Press provided by the Constitution is in danger under BJP rule,†Siddaramaiah said.
“ Acharya’s police men who chased BV See when he was traveling, on the pretext that
he was avoiding warrants, should now answer as to why they are hesitating to implement
the non-bailable warrants issued against Minister Janardhan Reddy by the court,â€
Siddaramaiah questioned.
KPCC President RV Deshpande, Working President DK Shivakumar, former speaker
Ramesh Kumar, DK Taradevi, Dakshina Kannada DCC President Ramanatha Rai and
former Udupi MP Vinaykumar were present at this meeting which was attended by
around 40,000 people.
