Udupi TMC chief polls ; BJP in for trouble

Posted on Aug 9th, 2010 and filed under Politics.

UDUPI : An interesting battle is on the cards between two BJP leaders who are vying

for the post of the Udupi TMC President, elections for which is scheduled to be held on

August 10, Tuesday.

Though there were a number of aspirants for the post which has been reserved for a

general category candidate, the party leadership, it is learnt had finalized the name of

Mohan Upadhya for the post. But reports of late suggest that Kiran Kumar, another BJP

man too is a strong contender for the post, proving a head ache to the party leadership.

However, the party leaders are unwilling to give the top post to Kiran Kumar who has

earlier served as TMC Vice President. At present, he has the inevitability of seeking the

support of Congress, independent members as well as some BJP members themselves.

In fact last time, though Mohan Upadhya had been chosen for the top post, the post had

gone to Dinaker Shetty in the last minute.

Though councilors Dr MR Nayak and Ravi Amin too were contenders for the post this

time, they withdrew from the fray heeding to the party advice.
