Elect reps blamed for sea erosion damage

Posted on Aug 9th, 2010 and filed under General.

UDUPI: KPCC Member Prakash Udyavar has alleged that the apathy of the elected

representatives was responsible for the damage caused to a concretised fisheries road

in Udyavar Padukere due to sea erosion. The road was laid under the Prime Minister’s

Sadak Yojana and the damage caused to it has greatly affected the people of the vicinity.

“When the place was suffering problem from sea erosion since ten days, none of the

elected representatives including officials visited the area to take stock of the situation

and initiate preventive measures. What else can be the reason for the damage caused to

the road but the lackadaisical approach of the elected representatives ? ” he questioned.

Before embarking on new projects, the authorities must first ensure that the already

completed projects are maintained properly, he said and urged for steps to minimize the

losses caused due to sea erosion in the area.
