PUTTUR: An anti-plastic jatha was held at Puttur town on August 17, Tuesday under
the auspices of Puttur TMC and various other organizations. Over 2000 students and
general public took part in the jatha which passed through the main roads of the town
upto the Town Hall.
However, the best (?) past of the jatha was to see the participants hold banners made
of plastic, making a mockery of the very purpose of holding the jatha. Interestingly, a
meeting held at the TMC a week ago to discuss about the steps to ban plastic in the town,
had also made news when the participants were served tea in plastic cups.
Now, again the participants of this jatha shouting anti-plastic slogans by holding plastic
banners, has become a laughing stock. Ironically, at the very same jatha, there was an
autorickshaw displaying plastic handbags, banners and other plastic items and requesting
people to minimize their use.
