BANGALORE : Former Dakshina Kannada SP Satish Kumar who was serving the
district when the church attacks took place, while deposing before the Justice BK
Somasekhara Commission probing into the church attack case has said “ It was true that
the Bhajrangdal had a role to play in the church attacks.â€
Earlier the Bhajrangdal leader Mahendra Kumar deposing before the Commission had
said that “ The Bhajrangdal had no role to play in the church attacks.†The former SP
was cross examined in this backdrop.
“ On September 14, 2008, activists of pro-Hindu organizations had attacked the
Adoration Church in Mangalore. They may be activists of Bhajrangdal, Sri Rama Sene
or other organization. But, on the basis of the complaints lodged and as per preliminary
investigation, it has been proved that the attack was done by the Bhajrangdal activists,â€
Satish Kumar said.
“ We have also ascertained through investigation that there were none but the around
10 to 15 Bhajrangdal activists who attacked the Adoration Church,†Satish Kumar said
and added “ Mahendra Kumar saying that the church attacks were their handiwork, had
appeared in the media (TV).â€
“ It came to light during the investigation of several persons in connection with the
incident that the Bhajrangis attacked the Adoration Church alleging Hindus were
converted into Christianity,†Satish Kumar said.
He also refuted the allegation that the police department was inactive in controlling the
violence and also the attacks on the churches on September 14, 2008.
