No farm land acquisition for 2nd phase SEZ, assures CM

MANGALORE : It has been reliably learnt that Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa has

instructed the authorities against acquisition of farmer land for the SEZ. It is learnt

the CM gave such an instruction after farmers affected by SEZ met him on the night of

August 23 and apprised him of their problems due to the SEZ.

During the discussions with farmers and leaders of various organizations, some farmers

including Giriappa Gowda of Permude Kudubipadavu, Mallappa Gowda and Gregory

Patrao were adamant that they wanted their agricultural lands and not compensation.

On this occasion, Yeddyurappa reportedly took exception to acquisition of farmlands

for the second phase of MSEZ too. He who viewed a video clipping of the demolition

of Gregory Patrao’s house, issued certain instructions to the Deputy Commissioner,

Assistant Commissioner and Tahsildar.
On this occasion, the CM also assured to invite the farmer leaders to Bangalore for talks

on the matter and also instructed the district administration not to proceed with the land

acquisition until then.

Padayatra cancelled : The Padayatra against SEZ which various organizations

had planned on September 6 has been cancelled following an appeal by the CM.
