Probe underway into offensive letter against varsity lecturer

MANGALORE: Panambur ASP Girish has informed that the police are investigating

into the case of a letter written by students of Mangalore University with the deliberate

intention of bringing disrepute to Umeshchandra, a former lecturer in the Mangalore

University and now the special officer of the SC, ST cell of the university.

Speaking at the SC, ST Grievance Redressal meeting held on August 29, Sunday,

he said “Two students have written an offending letter against the lecturer and had

distributed it outside the university campus. The handwriting of a few suspected students

has been sent to the forensic lab for examination and the handwriting of two students

tallied with the handwriting in the letter. A charge sheet would soon be filed in the court

in this regard.”

At the meeting a Dalit leader brought to the attention of the police officials the complaint

that higher fees was charged to SC ST and backward class students in the university.

Dalit leaders K Gopal Kadumutt, SP Anand, P Kasha, Nirmal Kumar and others attended

the meeting.
