Vittal cops commit brutality on school boys

BANTWAL : The Vittal police have been accused of committing atrocities on four

students after detaining them on charges of stealing the mobile set of a lecturer. The

students were taken into custody after Jayaram Shetty complained against them

following the theft of his mobile. It is learnt, the police detained Sandeep, Sharath,

children of Gopal Nayak of Kolnad and Pradeep and Avinash, children of Gopal

Nayak’s brother Narayan Nayak and committed atrocities on them after stripping them.

The Vittal head constable Babu Gowda and his personnel have been named as the

accused.

If Sandeep is a ninth standard student of Salettur High School, Sharath is a sixth standard

student of Salettur Higher Primary School. Pradeep and Avinash are students of Manchi

High School. Of the students, Sharath is in a critical state and has been admitted to

Bantwal Government Hospital.

The police who arrived at the Salettur play grounds on September 1, when the children

were playing as it was a holiday on account of Janmashtami, took the students to the

station. The cops, it is learnt, abused Gopal Nayak who opposed their action.

It is said the children who were taken to the station were stripped right in front of their

parents and caned. Sharath collapsed in custody and was admitted to the Bantwal

Government Hospital. The cops have also been accused of forcibly securing Rs 60 from

Narayan Nayak for ordering tea.

A complaint has been lodged with the SP and action has been demanded against the

guilty police.
